That article looks suspiciously like the people who wrote it have done some recent brand consultancy work for McDonalds themselves. There is no real critisicm of what McD's has done apart from perhaps suggesting they were a bit slow off the ball and careless in their earlier defensive PR tactics. Instead they manage to highlight a number of the token gestures the company has made and make them out to be giant leaps forward.
A quick glance at their website, www.prophet.com, i think will tell you a lot more about where they're coming from perhaps.
But at least this was pretty straightforwards - they are brand consultants. What is more interesting is when we see these kind of puff pieces written about by journos. That's when you don't realise you're gettting the soft sell.
